Update:   Thursday, November 27, 2003

No updates today, I'm afraid. I'll be away at my parents' house for Thanksgiving, and I have final exams soon after, so updates may be a bit sporadic in the next couple of weeks. However, if you have submissions, please don't hesitate to send them in. I'll still try to update whenever I can, and if I can't get to all of them, I'll have plenty of time after finals.

In the meantime, I've got a new story up at FFnet. Not my best effort, but this was more to pass the time than anything else. I'll probably cringe when I read it tomorrow morning. You know how sometimes an idea seems cool in the middle of the night, but when you wake up the next day, it's just...sad? Heh.

Anyway, to all the Americans out there, Happy Thanksgiving. And to the rest of the world, have a lovely and relaxing weekend.

The Narrator's Kenshin Outtakes, Take 2! has been added to the fic archive. In my humble opinion, this sequel is funnier than the first, heehee. Please take a look, folks. And thanks so much to The Narrator for allowing me to post her work!

A lovely Enishi & Kaoru pic by redbeangirl today. (Not too many of those around out there, eh?) I love the vibrant colors and clean line work. And the shading is wonderfully done, especially on Kaoru's face. Thanks so much for sending this in, redbeangirl. Please check it out, everyone!

Artist (and author) ChiisaiLammy has a new pic up at her art gallery. This one is a picture of Aoshi and Megumi in an emotionally charged moment. The artist stated to me that she wanted to depict the two characters with an undercurrent of danger between them. I think this was done very successfully. Thanks so much to ChiisaiLammy for this wonderful pic! Please take a look, folks.

Sherlgirl also has a new work of art in the gallery. This is a gorgeous picture of Saitou and Tokio, based on descriptions from author Angrybee's story, Hajime and Tokio. Saitou's expression is dead-on. And Tokio (though never really pictured in the TV series or manga) also looks just right IMHO. Beautiful work. Thanks for allowing me to post this, sherlgirl. Please take a look at this artwork, folks. Oh, and there is also a wallpaper version of the same pic in sherlgirl's wallpaper page.

Narrator's newest fanart is aptly titled Saitou Cheesecake. Heehee. Please have a look, folks. And thanks to Narrator for sending this one in!

I'm up much too late right now. I need to get some shut-eye. 'Til next time....

For those of you familiar with The Narrator's dounjinshi, you'll know that her sense of humor is rather...warped. (Heehee.) Anyway, The Narrator has graciously allowed me to post her Rurouni Kenshin Outtakes. Take a look, and you'll soon find out what I meant by "warped". :-) I'll be posting the sequel in a day or two. The Narrator has told me she likes the original fic better, but IMHO, the sequel's even funnier. Please take a look, everyone.

For something more serious, Angrybee's magnificent Hajime and Tokio has been updated with the addition of chapters 15 and 16. And please don't forget: There is a fan art contest for this fic. Please see the Announcements & Events section on the Welcome Page for details. Read this one if you haven't already. You won't regret it.

There's a reason Akai Kitsune is one of my favorite fan fic authors. And her newest fic, I Need to Know, is an example of why. Only 306 words. And still, it blew me completely and utterly away. Quality over quantity. Please take a look, people! And thank you for allowing me to post this, Akai Kitsune!

Updates on two great fics today.

Starshifter's Sagara: Rebel in Willow Falls is a wonderful AU fic set in 1940's America. One of the more original premises for an AU fic, this one features Sano as a professional boxer who's returned to his home town with his kid brother Yahiko after the two of them left years before. Act 6 has been updated. If you're tired of seeing yet another "Kenshin-gumi in high school - guess who loves who" fic, then consider taking a look at this one.

Chapter 93 of Akai Kitsune's Kendo No Go has been added. I'm reading these chapters out of order (bad HB) but it doesn't seem to matter too much in this series of vignettes. I particularly liked this chapter. It was sweet and reminded me of my childhood when I used to bug my poor parents to no end. Heh. Check it out, folks.

Addendum: I've increased the text size of the stories. I'd like some feedback, please! Is this new size better or worse than the original? Does the text need to be even larger? Or is this okay? Here's my dilemma. I don't want the text to be too small for the people browsing with 1024x768 or larger resolution. But if I make the text too big, then people browsing with 800x600 size browsers will probably have to scroll down too frequently since the text will be so large.

Feel free to click on the "contact" button on the main menu and fill out the comment box. You don't have to include your name and e-mail if you don't want. I really would like to know what people think. I increased the text size because people have apparently had trouble reading the stories.

Thanks to redbeangirl, a new artist at this gallery, for allowing me to post eight marvelous pics. Battousai, Kenshin, Kaoru, Sano, Anji. It's all good. My favorite of all redbeangirl's works is her "Reluctant Hitokiri" pic. Beautifully shaded, and done in elegant monochrome, this one really captures Battousai's character. I also really love the style of the AnjixSano pic. It's brilliantly colored and feels wonderfully alive. Wonderful work. Please take a look, folks!

Artist sherlgirl also has wonderful new art posted. This one is a large group picture with several of the RK main characters. It's not often you see fan art with so many characters in one pic. Even less often that you see it done well. And this one is done so very well. Great colors and beautiful shading. Please have a look, everyone. And thanks for sending this in, sherlgirl!

I got volume 1 of the Viz translated Rurouni Kenshin manga today. Woohoo! One down. Twenty-five more to go!

Thanks so much to artist Rinoa Tilmitt for sending in several gorgeous new pics featuring Kenshin, Beshimi, and Soujiro. The first one's a chibi pic of Kenshin and Beshimi. Beautiful colors, and very cute! The second one is an action packed pic of Beshimi. And the third, a more realistic oekaki rendering of Soujiro. Wonderful stuff. Please check it out, everyone!

DQBunny, a new author archived at this site, has a wonderful fic posted. For This Dojo's Honor features an aspect of RK that I have always thought was under-represented: Kamiya Kasshin Ryu, Kaoru's fighting style. DQBunny's insightful fic explores Kaoru's mindset in a way I've not seen before. It deals with her insecurities about her fighting abilities compared to Kenshin and Yahiko's skills. An interesting premise and a very well-written fic with excellent characterizations. Thanks so much to DQBunny for allowing me to post this. Please take a look, everyone!

Chapter 92 of Akai Kitsune's Kendo No Go has been posted. If you're not familiar with this series of 100 small vignettes, then by all means, check it out! It covers an impressively wide range of topics mainly dealing with Kenshin and Kaoru's life together.

Sho Kitsu, a new artist at this site, has three pics posted that are...well, quite unique. With adorable artwork and a rather twisted sense of humor, Sho Kitsu's Enishi and Kenshin pics may not be everyone's cup of tea.... But they sure as heck had me rolling on the floor. I thought they were a riot! And me, a rabid Kenshin fan, no less. Curious? You'll see what I'm talking about. Please take a look. And thanks so much for allowing me to post these, Sho Kitsu!

Chapter 14 of Angrybee's marvelous Hajime and Tokio fic is up. Also, the author has announced a fan art contest for the story! Please click here for more info on deadlines and rules.

Also, please note that the Shrine of Ice and Fire's Aoshi and Megumi contest deadline has been extended until November 23, 2003. So get working on those entries, Aoshi and Megumi fans!

Seifer-sama has an incredibly cool new artwork, "Crossed Paths", up in the gallery. It's a picture of Kenshin and Sano, and it's really great. I love the details on the hair and the cloth. And I love the vibrant sense of movement in the picture. Seifer-sama has a really unique style that I find appealing. Something about the way the characters are lined or shaded makes the pictures very, I don't know, tactile for me. I'm not sure if that makes sense. But anyway, thanks so much for the art, Seifer-sama! And please, check it out, folks!

Also new in the gallery, I have one of my own pics up. It's a picture of Kenshin and someone from the Jinchuu arc. Minimal spoilers involved. I don't think the picture really gives any plot points away. It's an angsty pic, but the color scheme is lighter. My last few pics had been so dark, I thought I'd try to lighten up the colors just a little for this one.

Addendum: Oh my goodness! Six new pics on the oekaki board. Thanks so much, everyone!

I really love it when a fan art is suffused with emotion, so ChiisaiLammy's latest pic is a real treat for me. It's a wonderful pic of Kenshin and Kenji in a warm, tender moment. I like the composition, colors, and shading a great deal, but it's the emotional impact of the work that really clinches it for me. Wonderful job. Thanks so much for sending this one in, ChiisaiLammy! Please take a look, folks!

I took a day off from updating this site today. I love this site dearly--it's my baby--and I have no intentions of slowing down with the updates. But one can get a little loopy staring at Kenshin material non-stop. So today I worked on a personal site for myself, a site where I can post my non-RK artwork. It's still pretty puny, but I had fun setting it up. I have a banner on the welcome page that'll link to it in case anyone's curious. The site's called Curio Lane. There's not much there yet, but hey, it's not like there's a time limit for any of this stuff.

Angrybee's Hajime and Tokio has been updated with the addition of chapter 13. If you haven't read this fic, then I really recommend it. One of the finest fan fics I've seen in a while! Please take a look, folks!

I've added a little section on the submissions page. I've described a few other websites that artists can submit their works to. I've tried to give accurate descriptions on each of these sites with pros and cons and any distinctive features each has.

Elpheal, a new contributor to this site, has sent in three really gorgeous pencil line arts of Kenshin and Kenji. The figures are beautifully drawn. The line work and shading are clean. All three are great, but my favorite has to be the picture of young Battousai. He's got this slightly sad expression on his face that I find very appealing. Thanks so much to Elpheal for sending these in! Please have a look, folks!

BTW, note the handy-dandy new sitemap located on the Welcome page links. Convenient, eh?

I now have to go work on my paper. Did I ever mention I hate writing papers? *sigh*

Sachi Ami has a great new picture of Hiko posted at her gallery. This one is a CG pic that is quite different in style from her previous entries. Nice shading and line work. Colorful and full of energy and attitude. Please check it out folks! And thanks, SachiAmi, for sending this in!

Akai Kitsune's story, Kendo no Go, has been updated. Chapter 91 is up. Please check it out, everyone! This is a great series of vignettes on the life of Kenshin and Kaoru. Very insightful. I sound like a broken record when I say this, but this really is a wonderful fic.

Misao Mei Mei's got a bunch of new stuff up in her galleries. First, some very nice sketches of Aoshi, one with him in his trenchcoat and the other a close-up. Also, a very interesting pic of a couple of kunai and a long braid. Hmm. Wonder whom the braid belongs to? Heh. Finally, an absolutely marvelous wallpaper of Aoshi. Please check it out, folks! Thanks for the art, Misao Mei Mei!

I've got another non-RK pic up in my miscellaneous gallery. This one's a non-anime pic called "Clotho". It's weird. My drawing muse has been in full gear lately, but my wayward writing muse is on vacation somewhere. I hope it comes back soon. I miss it.

Update:   Saturday, November 01, 2003

Well, nothing much in the way of updates today, I'm afraid. I've added a little announcements section to the Welcome page. Also, I have a non-RK picture up in my miscellaneous gallery (on the miscellaneous page, appropriately enough). It's a pic of Lady Eboshi from Princess Mononoke.

That's about it though. I haven't received too many submission lately, and I've been too busy with my schoolwork to scour the web looking for good fics. I'll hopefully have some time this weekend to poke my nose around and e-mail some prospective authors. In the meantime, please feel free to send in artwork and walls. Those are always welcome!

I hope everyone had a nice Halloween!
