Plenty of great new art. Please take a look at all the new contributions, folks.

Aikawarazu Ai, a new artist to the gallery, has a cool character reference sketch sheet of Tomoe in various poses and from different angles. My favorite one is the profile with her looking toward the left. Nice work. Thanks so much for sharing your art, Aikawarazu Ai.

Neko Oni has a new pic inspired by Linay's fic, Broken Pieces. Battousai's eyes practically glow in this one. And I like the way Neko Oni drew the sword with the cool glint on the blade. Thank you very much for sending this one in, Neko Oni.

Artist lightning_storm has a new pic with the unique premise of Kenshin and Kaoru in a modern-day Akabeko. The poses are well done, and the expressions on their faces are wonderful. Thanks for the lovely new artwork, lightning_storm.

Kistune-Onna19, a new artist at this site, has sent in three beautiful wallpapers of the Kenshin-gumi. I like the bright colors and the happy tone of these walls. My favorite is the "Oh How Photogenic" one. Thanks so much for sending these, Kitsune-Onna19.

There is a new entry in the contest by artist RoseThorn. This one depicts a quiet, intimate moment between Battousai and Tomoe. I like the tender mood and the soft colors. Nicely done. Thanks very much for joining in the contest, RoseThorn.

UPDATE:

Artist lightning_storm has a new pic up in her gallery. This one's actually a second version of an older artwork entitled Gemini. This time, some cool digital re-workings have been added. I've kept both versions up so folks can compare. Lovely work, lightning_storm. Thank you so much for sharing your art. Check it out, folks.

CONTEST:

Please take a look at the two very cool new entries in the contest. Oh, and before I forget. Yes, there have been a few entries so far from artists who are under the age of 14. But as you'll note, I've not included the ages in the entry page. Please rest assured. I am keeping track, and judges will take young age into consideration when we judge this thing in August. Thanks!

Lady Himura Shishi has a second entry, a beautiful painting of Kenshin and Kaoru in a lovely, romantic setting. I really like the background in this pic. It adds a great deal to the emotional tone of Kenshin and Kaoru's actions. Very nicely done. Thanks very much for sending this in, Lady Himura Shishi.

Artist Rhexi has a fabulous pic of Hitokiri Battousai entered into the contest. The coloring and shading on this pic are gorgeously done, and Battousai's facial expression is very much in character. Nice work, Rhexi. Thanks so much for joining in the contest.

UPDATES:

Chapter 23 of Linay's well-known AU dark epic, Broken Pieces has been posted. This exciting story is nearing its end, sad to say. Apparently this is the second to last chapter. Sad. But Linay states she's planning a sequel, so I'm sure folks will be very happy. Anyway, if you haven't heard of this fic before, you're in for a treat. Rated hard PG-13, and some chapters are rated R. Great story. Check it out, folks.

Artist Neko Oni has two wonderful new pics to add to the gallery. The first is an AU pic of Kenshin and Kaoru dressed in some very cool original costumes. Kenshin, IMO, looks wonderful in black. And the other pic is a fan art of Linay's story. I really like the way Neko Oni colors her pics. And her costume design is really impressive. Lovely work, Neko Oni, thanks so much for sending these in. Please have a look, everyone.

CONTEST:

ConRtist has a hilarious doujinshi for the contest. The story involves three fellas on a tree branch and an unsuspecting Kaoru at the mercy of their devious plan. LOL. Read this one from right to left, Japanese style. Thanks for sending this in, ConRtist. Enjoy, people.

Artist Kaoru~hime has a tense and emotional oekaki piece submitted. This one features a very upset looking Kenshin and is aptly titled Memories. Clean line work. Vivid coloring. Great job, Kaoru~hime. Thanks very much for joining in the contest. Please have a look at it, everyone.

Thanks very much to artists Ai and Dax from Millennium Entertainment for offering their fantastic skills as commission artists as one of the choices for first place prize. Much appreciation!

Two great new pics up at s-girl's art page. The first is a lively pic of Misao and Soujirou. The second is a gorgeous pic of Misao, Okina, and Aoshi in action. Aoshi, in particular, looks really cool here if you ask me. Heh! As usual, beautiful work from s-girl. Thanks so much for the new art.

CONTEST:

Three cool submissions to add to the contest page today. Please take a look, folks.

A second entry from cherryblossom88, this one depicts a sweet moment with Misao thinking wistfully on her favorite warrior. Nice emotional content, and an elegantly simple color scheme. Nice job. Thanks for sending this in, cherryblossom88.

Cconartist has a cool pic in comic book format. Swordfights, crossovers, and Pocky. How could you go wrong with that? Funny, spirited, and vividly colored. I had fun reading this one. Thanks so much for the artwork, Cconartist.

Aikawarazu Ai has sent in a lovely piece done in a rather different, more sketchy style. I like the delicate colors. And Kenshin looks quite pensive as he wanders. Aptly titled too. Nice work. Thanks so much for joining in the contest, Aikawarazu Ai.

UPDATE:

Chapter 7 of Akai Kitsune's wonderful Diary of a Manslayer, an alternate events story told as a series of vignettes. It covers Kenshin and Kaoru's life together and features original characters as their children. A sequel to the very cool Kendo no Go, this story compliments KnG well. It can also stand alone as a separate piece. Please take a look, everyone. Akai Kitsune's stories are always filled with wonderful characterizations.

CONTEST:

Two very cool new entries:

[Edit: July 18, 2004 - Entry #11 in the contest has been disqualified due to copying from an official pic.]

Cherryblossom88 has a wonderful pic of Kenshin and Kaoru together in a very emotional moment. Great textures and vivid coloring. I like the emotions on Kenshin and Kaoru's faces. Very fitting considering the pic's title. Fabulous work.

Please check them out folks, and thanks to cherryblossom88 for joining in the competition.

Michimoro Mocha, a new artist at this site, has a lovely realistic pic of Kenshin added to the gallery. Done on oekaki, this pic is wonderfully detailed. I like the colors and the shading. And it's always fascinating to see people's interpretations on how Kenshin would look in real life. Nicely done. Thanks for sending this in, Michimoro Mocha. Do have a look, everyone.

Crystal Renee has a new wallpaper posted. This one's of Yahiko with a cool, funky whirlpool like background. I like the darkness of the pic and the interesting atmosphere. Plus it's Yahiko, and that's always a treat. Thanks for sharing your wall, Crystal. Please check it out, everyone.

Black Fireball also has a new Yahiko wall for the gallery. This one's also got a very interesting background. I'm not even sure how to describe it, but it's got silhouettes of trees with a really cool backlit sky that's quite beautiful. Thanks for sending this in, Black Fireball. Please have a look, folks.

CONTEST:

Thanks very much to artist kendranoelle for her adorable new entry in the art contest. Her pic focuses on a different kind of love. Cute characters, lovely emotion. Thanks so much for sending this in. Please check it out, everone.

CONTEST RULES:

A reminder to those who plan on entering the contest. Please read the rules very carefully before submitting your pic. I've had too many people sending me entries that did not meet the image specifications, so please look over those if you haven't already.

I know that rules are no fun, but in order to make the contest a fair one for all contestants, the rules must be followed. I've clarified some that perhaps were confusing before. Please note that no copied artworks will be accepted! Not only is this considered theft by some people, but it is very unfair to the other contestants who had to come up with their poses themselves. Copied artwork will be rejected!

OTHER:

For those of you who e-mailed asking about my stories, I'm sorry I haven't updated them recently. I haven't abandoned them, but I can't work on them right now. I have an exam on July 10th, which I absolutely can not fail. (Especially since it cost me $700--yeah, you read that right--to register for the thing. Ugh!)

I will happily resume work on the stories after July 10th. I'll finish Sea and then start on Oiran again. Thanks so much for asking. I'm very happy to know that people like my fics enough that they'd want me to finish them. Thanks so much!

UPDATES:

Chapter 6 of Conspirator's most excellent fic, An Unexpected Lesson has been added. More information is revealed about Daisuke and his family. The plot continues to twist and turn. This is a great fic set in Kenshin's young, wandering days as he deals with a Kabuki acting troupe. Good stuff. Check it out. Oh, and welcome back to fanfic-dom, Co-Conspirator. It's nice to see your presence in the endnotes again.

CONTEST:

A marvelous new entry in the contest. This one's a picture of Kaoru, drawn by Sachi Ami. Lovely subtle colors and textures, and smooth and flowing composition. I especially liked the way the hair was drawn. Thanks so much for joining in the contest, Sachi Ami. Please have a look at her entry, everyone.

A beautiful plate, teapot, and cup. Also, she has several drawings to add, ranging from serious themes to absolute cuteness. Check it out, folks. And thanks for the art, Lady Himura Shishi.

CONTEST:

Two new entries in the contest today. If these entries keep coming in at this pace, and if the quality of pics remains this good, the judges are going to have a hard time deciding on a winner, if you ask me. ;-)

Eiko Makimachi's pic is of Kamatari. Beautiful coloring and a very cool pose. I love the action-packed feel of this pic. It's quite lively. Thanks very much for sending this in, Eiko Makimachi.

And Gary Hagins has sent in a dark and tragic piece featuring Battousai. I like the severe style of this. It really fits wonderfully with the emotional tone of the pic. Thanks for joining the contest, Gary Hagins.

CONTEST:

Author-chan has also sent in our 4th entry for the contest. This pic of Kenshin and Kaoru shows a very sweet and tender moment. It sets up a lovely mood and warms the heart. Thanks for joining in the contest, A-chan.

I've added e-mail Amazon.com gift certificate options to the list of possible prizes. These don't require people to give out their mailing address, so hopefully it'll give people more of a choice.

I'm so excited that after less than a week, we have 4 contest entries already. Thanks to those who sent stuff in, and thanks in advance to anyone who's currently working on a pic to submit. Man, this is fun for me.

CONTEST:

The second entry is in. Artist LadyHimuraShishi has a great acrylic on canvas piece submitted. I love the rich colors. OAV Spoiler warning on this pic, but for those of you who have seen it, it's a powerful moment with Kenshin and a certain spirit who watches over him. Thanks for sending this in, LadyHimuraShishi. OTHER NEWS:

Update:   Monday, June 07, 2004

First, the obvious news. I'm holding a Rurouni Kenshin fan art contest. Joy! Contest runs from now until July 31, 2004. Winners will be determined by a panel of esteemed judges. Oh, and did I mention nifty prizes? Send your artwork in, folks. Don't be shy now. :)

Oh, and before anyone wonders, yes, the fan art section will still be open while the contest is running, so if you draw something that doesn't fit the contest theme, I'm still always on the lookout for cool art.

Chapters 6 and 7 of Angrybee's bizarro fic, The Hitokiri Stainmaster have been added to the fic archive. Heehee, this story just gets weirder and weirder. Very funny stuff from a very versatile author. Check it out, everyone.

As for my own story, I'll finish it as soon as I get a good chunk of time where I can sit and write with no interruptions. My phone has been possessed lately, I swear! Ugh.

Hakubaikou.com RK Fan Art Contest....coming soon!
Yup. You read that right, folks. And by the way... the prizes will be REAL. *oooooooh aaaaaaah*

CConartist has two new images in his gallery. They're similar in concept to his first submission. RK FF7 crossovers that are quite unique, not to mention fun and cute. The Sword Hunter Cho-cobo pic (pun intended) in particular had me giggling. Thanks for the new pics, CConartist.

Artist lightning_storm has a great new pic of Kenshin and Battousai together. Aptly titled "Gemini". I like the expressions on their faces and the lighter versus darker look of each half of the pic. Nicely done. Thanks so much for sending this in, lightning_storm.

Also set up a minor page, the Oro! sightings page. It's in the Miscellany section. All I have so far are the two photos from the June 3rd update. But hopefully more will pop up in the future.

Do check out the new art, folks. Thanks much! And now I'm off to bed. HB is very sleepy at the moment.

Update:   Friday, June 04, 2004

I've finally got the updates up. Joy! Sorry it took so long, but since my e-mail's been messed up, I had to search for all the legit e-mails in my folders. Took a while to find them all, and I still may have missed some. If you've sent me anything in the last few weeks, and I didn't post it here today, then please re-send it! I didn't get it. Please use the e-mail addresses I listed in yesterday's update note. Thanks!

dEstiNys shadow 2, a new artist at this site, has a lovely wallpaper from Trust & Betrayal. Strong spoiler warning for the OAV, just so you know. But the image is quite beautiful. Thanks for the wallpaper, dEstiNys shadow 2.

Chii, another new artist at this site, has three wonderful pencil portraits of Kenshin, Kaoru, and Yahiko. Chii does a great job with the anime-styled artwork. The character's personalities are captured beautifully. Thanks for the art, Chii.

Artist MissaW has a hilarious new pic featuring Kenshin and Saitou. I'm not going to say much more about it, and you'll note that the thumbnail reveals very little. Heh. But check out the pic. It'll definitely make you smile. Thanks so much, MissaW.

Chiisai Lammy has another gorgeous pic added to the gallery. This one is an oekaki of Aoshi in action. He looks very, well...Aoshi-ish here. I like the pose and the colors. And the expression on his face. Thanks so much for the new art, Chiisai Lammy.

Artist Leah has a wonderful new pic of Battousai up in her gallery. Wonderfully colored in traditional media, and impressively detailed (right down to the paper he uses to clean his sword.) Lovely work. Thanks so much, Leah, for sending this in.

Please have a look at the new art, folks! Thanks!

Update:   Thursday, June 03, 2004

Greetings, folks! Just letting you know I'm back from vacation and mostly settled into the regular routine again. No update for today, but I'll probably have something up for tomorrow. I got a few submissions in the inbox, but my e-mail is screwed up (yet again, argh!) so if you sent something and I don't post it within the next few days, send it again.

Fanart goes to: fanart[at]hakubaikou[dot]com
Comments and other e-mails go to: hb1[at]hakubaikou.com[dot]com

Note the new e-mail address! There's a "1" after the "hb". I had to change my addy because I received over 20 messages with viruses on them while I was gone. Thankfully Norton Antivirus cleaned them all up, but sheesh! That was a shock to see.

I had a lovely vacation. Took tons of photos. But even though I had a good time, I still couldn't seem to get Kenshin out of my head, heehee. Evidence here:

Oro! and another Oro!. LOL.

Oh, and I'm currently working on chapter 8 of Sea. Yeah, yeah, I'm slow. Sorry. Anyway, hope you're all doing well.
