Update:   Friday, April 15, 2005

A small, but very cool update today. Thanks to all three artists for sending in their pics. Oh, also, 2 new polls, one serious, one not.

Soujiro has a great new pic of Kamatari for your viewing pleasure. I like the neat linework and gorgeous shading. The details on the scythe are lovely too. He looks awesome. Great job.

Neko Oni has a beautiful pic of Battousai after his second scar. His expression and pose, combined with the detailed and symbolic background, make this pic work on several levels. Wonderful.

secretarytocapt3 has a cool picture of Saitou wearing a different design on the Shinsengumi uniform. I like the elegant, angular style and minimal coloring. And the artist's note on costume history makes me curious to learn more.

Three fantastic pics, everyone. Do check them out, please.

GENERAL:

I must say, I'm a bit shocked by a few of the poll results so far. The biggest surprise for me was how often people check on the site. I was expecting the "every week" option to be the most popular, but wow.... I'm so happy.... :) Thank you for continuing to support this site, everyone.

Hmm, I think the Requests page in the Fanart section is actually turning up some nice results, don't you? I've noticed several new art submissions featuring characters on the list. And some of the artists who have sent me stuff recently have said that they checked the page and sent in a character art based on the requests there. So thanks go out to the people who posted requests, and a big thanks to the artists who were kind enough to respond. Coolness.

FANART:

Plenty of beautiful artworks in this update. Thanks as always to all the people who generously contributed! Please check 'em all out, everyone.

Warm welcome to Moeru H., the newest artist in the gallery. Moeru has sent in two beautiful pencil drawings of Kenshin and Shuura the Pirate. Kenshin has a great piercing stare. And Shuura fanarts are so rare. I like her pose.

Wistful Eyes has a great sketch of Yahiko. He looks so determined in the pic, as if he's about to attack someone! The sketchy lineart works really well with the emotional tone of the pic.

Kaoru~hime has a lovely picture of Kenshin and Kaoru in a tender moment. I like how it looks like they're standing in the wind. I also like how Kaoru~hime left their faces white. Makes the pic seem more elegant that way.

I really enjoy keurigi's unique drawing style. Her RK pictures always look so unique. I like the new Kaoru and Kenshin pic. It's beautifully done, especially their eyes. There are two other great pics with Yahiko, Tsubame, and Kaoru.

CARURUSO has a wonderful picture of Tomoe posted. I like the clean lineart and coloring style. I also like the wistful and slightly sad expression on Tomoe's face.

Artist mimi has an adorable new pic of Kaoru wearing modern clothing. Both versions (one B&W, one colored) are very nice. And the outfit and tattoos are cool. She looks so happy in the pic. And I like her hair in the colored version. It looks so silky and smooth.

Jonathan has a great new picture of Kenshin. I like the dark mood and tone of this. One can really see Kenshin's pain here. Nice subdued color choices here.

Jess has sent in more lovely pencil art. Fluid lines and lovely textures. I especially like Kenshin's eyes and his hair in "Memories". I also like Kaoru's expression in "My Angel".

WALLPAPERS:

Wallpaper artist Kimmi has two great new walls in the gallery. The first is a picture of Kenshin and Kaoru from the Seisohen storyline. The second is a very cool Yahiko wall, also from Seisohen. I like Yahiko's blue outfit there.

Just a mini-update for now. I'll be posting a real update either tomorrow or Wednesday.

A new feature on this site: Polls! Mwahahaaa. The link to the polls page can be found by clicking on the "miscellany" button in the main menu.

And hmm... less than three weeks until May. You know what that means, right? *cough cough* Contest time *cough cough hint hint*....

Update:   Thursday, April 07, 2005

Hooboy, big update today. Plenty of nifty things to see and read. Thanks so much to all the contributors for sharing their work.

STORIES:

Chapter 4 of Kyuushutsu, the excellent story by Terry McElrath, has been posted. Plenty of tense action and adventure in this one, folks. Someone important is captured. And guess who's going in for the rescue? Curious? Be sure to check it out.

Chapter 22 of The Courtship of Lady Tokio by Mio is up. Elegant restraint makes for some beautiful character interactions in this story. Very romantic, yet not at all melodramatic. Saitou at his finest. Please have a look at this one if you haven't already.

WALLPAPERS:

There's a gorgeous new wall by lolo popoki in the Wallpaper gallery. It features the two halves of Kenshin in front of a very cool fractal background. Great colors. Lovely work.

FANART:

CARURUSO, a new artist at this site, has a great picture of Battousai for the gallery. A very dramatic image featuring young Kenshin and a sword dripping with blood. I like the background as well. Very fitting of the scene.

Arashi has a beautiful new drawing of Battousai. I really like the dragon and sword in the background. The coloring style is unique and very nicely done. Wonderful pic.

Centauri has a very dramatic close-up pic of Kenshin. I like the expression in his eye, and I like how his scar stands out from the rest of the pic. Very striking use of bright colors in contrast to pale greys. An interesting pic.

Artist keurigi has a new picture posted of Kenshin and Kaoru. Done in a distinctive style with beautiful, subtle colors and an intricate, detailed background. Impressive work.

Artist mimi has sent in a bunch of great pencil drawings featuring various characters. It's especially a treat to get a picture of Sayo, a character I rarely see drawn in fanarts. Also, mimi has a one-shot doujinshi involving Hiko and sake that is sure to amuse.

Neko Oni has three new deliciously rich pics to add. I especially like "Purple Year Blue" which features Kenshin with Tomoe and with Kaoru 14 years later. Fabulous work, as always.

Rose Thorn sends in a lovely, contemplative picture of Kenshin. I like the slightly subdued colors. They match the mood of the piece well. I also like Kenshin's facial expression in this. Great job.

Artist Jonathan has sent in a fanart featuring Han'nya. I almost never see artwork of this character, so it's great to see this. The pencil drawing features Han'nya with and without his mask. So a slight spoiler warning there. Nicely done.

And finally, artist Jess has sent in several gorgeous pencil drawings of various RK characters. Beautiful line art and shading. And Jess does a wonderful job of capturing some very emotional moments. My favorite pic is "Intimacy", featuring a very quiet and poignant moment between Kenshin and Kaoru. Splendid.
